He filmed Diamond smoking weed and used the footage to blackmail the actor in order to get a role as Tori Spelling's boyfriend on the show. In Mario Lopez's book, Just Between Us , he writes that Diamond performed quite a few lewd acts that did not necessarily endear him to the rest of the cast.
The fact that Diamond was a few years younger than everyone else, combined with the clear fact that he did not look like his cast mates, set him apart from the cool kids. I did, but maybe I was the exception," he writes.
He describes how people adored Gosselaar and followed him blindly. Whatever Gosselaar was into, whatever bandwagon he hopped onto, everyone trailed behind him like sheep. Diamond alleges that in Saved By the Bell: The New Class , which ran from to , the show's writers were trying to destroy his character, Screech. He claims that there were scenes and shots where Screech and Mr. Belding would stare into each other's eyes to hint at a homosexual relationship. He felt the writers didn't like him and were trying to use his character to get at him.
While the series was unarguably popular across the nation, Cincinnati residents were especially devoted fans, and went to great lengths to make their obsession known.
The documentary opens with video clips from a meet and greet held at a Cincinnati shopping mall, wherein Lopez is asked to autograph a pregnant woman's stomach, and Gosselaar's clothes are ripped off by his adoring fans.
The cast basically incited a riot by agreeing to meet with their fans, an accolade that was not repeated in other states. Allegedly, the cast of Saved By the Bell were able to routinely coerce the showrunners into taking the plot in new directions. If a cast member wanted things to change, the others would all band together until the writers and producers had no choice but to succumb to their wishes. One of their most memorable power-plays came after Elizabeth Berkley decided that the show needed to tackle more real-world issues.
The other cast members supported her vision, and the show abruptly began covering more mature topics, such as "drunk driving and drug abuse. According to Diamond, being paid to pretend to be a nerd comes with a hefty amount of psychological baggage.
Throughout the entirety of the series, Diamond's character Screech just can't seem to get a break. Whereas other characters routinely hook up and fall in love, Screech usually ends episodes sad and alone. From both the documentary and the book, it's clear that Screech's losses were difficult for Diamond to bear.
He routinely takes shots at his cuter, more fictitiously popular co-stars, and goes to great lengths to convince the tell-all's audience that he's not as nerdy as Screech is.

Rest well. Of course, Slater and Belding. In an interview at the time, Gosselaar described the book as "negative," telling HuffPost that his own "experience on the show was very positive. Diamond — who also had a series of run-ins with the law , and served time in jail in in connection with a stabbing during a street brawl — later publicly apologized to Gosselaar, Voorhies, Mario Lopez , Tiffani Thiessen and Elizabeth Berkley. I had a ghostwriter.
Addressing his costars, he said, "I will say, guys, I think you're fantastic, working with you has been just one of the icons of my life and I'm sorry that this has taken advantage of me, the book and other situations. But I'm sure that you've experienced downfalls, as well, in your time and I'm still loving you guys. As for where their relationships stood, Diamond said he hadn't talked to most of his cast mates "in a long time.
I feel terrible for it but what can I do? In , Gosselaar said while he hadn't spoken to Diamond since , he wasn't holding a grudge. And last year, Berkley noted on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen that although she hadn't been in contact with Diamond since the original series wrapped in , there was no bad blood between them.
Unlike the rest of his cast mates, however, Diamond did not reprise his role for the Peacock reboot of Saved by the Bell , which debuted its first season last November.
I mean, it seems like there's a missed opportunity there. A week later, on Jan.
